Yesterday, my BFF and I headed out to watch the first showing of This is It in Valencia. As major Michael Jackson fans, this was a huge deal for us. We actually bought our tickets as soon as they went on sale weeks ago. However, we both forgot to bring kleenex even though we knew we would need tissues to dry our tears.
We got there a bit early, so we decided to get some frozen yogurt at Tutti Frutti which took over the old Ben & Jerry’s space outside of the Edwards Cinema. I had never been to this new froyo place, but I remember Carrie talking about it. Also, my boo “former man friend” used to rave about a Tutti Frutti shop that had recently opened in the valley and he even said it was better than Menchies. He doesn’t have the the best taste in food, let alone froyo, so I always take his recommendations with a grain of salt…
So, basically it is a serve yourself type of place, and honestly? I never do well at these types of places because the type of yogurt I like doesn’t go well together. And, priced at just 35 cents per ounce? Well things could get a little crazy…
I got orange (or was it peach?), blueberry, and strawberry. As a topping, I got mini gummy bears and mango. Weird, right?
Oh, and here is my BFF posing with her MJ shirt in front of the machines. Once in the theater, a lot of people were wearing MJ stuff, including one kid that was wearing a red jacket, Thriller style.
And, she also knew how to serve herself better because her combination actually worked, as opposed to mine, which became a hot mess once it melted.
I really liked the spoons for some reason. Totally went with the vibe of the place. Bright, fluorescent, fun.
Also, the variety of condiments for the yogurt was pretty cool! And, did I mention how clean it was? The employee was cleaning and making sure everything was tidy the whole time we were there.
After the yogurt, we headed into the theater. As we made our way to stadium 3, I noticed that there was space set aside for a birthday party later that night. WTF? You can do that? I had no idea!
Once we were seated, we noticed everyone around us had lanyards that looked pretty cool. Pretty much, everyone except us. My BFF went to investigate, and as it turned out, the guy at the entrance had forgotten to give us lanyards. D’oh! I know I will always treasure my lanyard.
The movie/documentary/film was amazing. As MJ fans, we enjoyed it very much and even shed a tear, or two. Oh, all right! I cried about 10 seconds in when the dancers were talking. It was really emotional! I just thought it was so well put together and it showed how talented Michael was.
Every part was amazing, from the Jackson 5 number, to Smooth Criminal, Earth Song, and of course, Thriller, which was the most memorable. Really, I can’t stop thinking about it. I actually plan on seeing it again. It was spectacular. The new video for Thriller was really awesome!
As most of you know, after he died, I went to his star in Hollywood, drove up north to Neverland, and even went to Staples the night before the memorial to attempt to sign the wall. Seeing this film was like coming full circle. If you are a fan of his music, don’t wait for the DVD! It should be seen in a theater full of fans.
People were clapping and cheering after each performance and you could just see that everyone enjoyed the film. I can’t wait to see it again in theaters! Anyway…I always like how the courtyard looks at night…
