Oh Langer’s! I feel like my Los Angeles County birth certificate is finally valid! How did I go my whole life (26 years) without visiting? I decided late last year while in Banff, that 2010 would be a year of doing things I had been putting off. I was going to do fun things, once in a lifetime things (Olympics), and have fun. It would be a year of travel, adventure, and taking advantage of fabulous opportunities that popped up. At this point in life, I’m done being a student, I’m somewhat set in my career path, I’m surrounded by incredibly kind and loyal friends. There are only a couple of years left of my 20s, the time is now!

My point is, Langers had been on my list of places to visit for YEARS! There really was no logical reason as to why I hadn’t been, so randomly after leaving Cognoscenti we headed towards MacArthur Park to FINALLY try Langers. I was excited! Would this be a life changer? Was it just hype?

Although #19 is their most popular sandwich, I wasn’t feeling the cheese. I think it was because I was still sickly and my taste buds weren’t all there. I browsed the menu, and was overwhelmed by options. Grr! What did I want? When Eve came to take our order, I ended up just going with the #1 which is basically #19 without cheese. Win!

Soon, the sandwich I had waited my whole life to eat arrived. It was wonderful. Incredibly wonderful. Starting with the bread. Oh my goodness that bread was magic! Toasted on the edges, but soft to the bite.

And the pastrami? I have no words…bliss!

Now that I’m starting to get over this sicklyness (I’ve had an epic teacher cold for close to a month now), and my appetite is back in full force, I can’t wait to go back to Langers. Ideally, the next time would be as part of the Sandwich Train…if someone would get to setting up the route. Hint. Hint. Seriously though, I know the neighborhood is shady and the parking situation is not ideal, but sometimes the hassle is worth it, and that is the case with Langers. Just keep your eye on the objective and you’ll be fine.
