A couple of weeks ago I initially heard about this promotion with Red Medicine and Lincoln, where you would get a complimentary dinner if you test drove the new Lincoln MKZ. Personally, I hate driving and I hate test drives, but I’ve been wanting to go back to Red Medicine for some time now. In fact we were planning on going there in the next week for my boyfriend’s birthday, so with this promotion, it was just perfect timing. I was still hesitant because I thought it would be tedious to complete the test drive, so I put off making my reservation until a few days ago. I luckily managed to snag a cancelled reservation, provided that I could fill a four top. So I called the Vinhja and said he HAD to join and then texted Alex to see if he was interested. We all had that hesitation of “is it worth it” – and the answer now, is yes. It was so worth it. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined what an amazing (free) dinner we were in for!

The Lincoln MKZ’s were conveniently parked at the restaurant, and with instructions to arrive at least 15 minutes before the reservation, the pre-meal process was a breeze. Answer a few questions before, go for a drive around the block (Alex drove, we all admired how fancy the car interior was), answer some questions after, and go into the restaurant for dinner. I’m pretty happy with my Ultimate Driving Machine, but if anything this test drive opened my eyes to how nice and fancy the new Lincoln is. It has a build in cooler and there’s something powerful about the engine that the boys were talking about.

I thought the dinner would be simple, three courses maybe. So imagine our surprise when we sat down to an 8 course menu and were informed that it included two drinks. Plus included on the menu were most of my favorite Red Medicine dishes plus a couple I had been wanting to come back and try. Wow.

The boys ordered cocktails of course. The Vinhja started with this red drink.

Alex enjoyed this drink which you had to shake yourself.

I didn’t get pictures of the rest of the cocktails (2 were included per person) because I was too busy eating. But, the boys throughly enjoyed them. Soon our first course arrived:

FAVA RILLETTE – yogurt, meyer lemon

I couldn’t stop eating this. It was so good.

BRUSSELS SPROUTS – shallots, fish sauce

I’m not a fan of vegetables or brussels, but I loved these. They tasted so good.

CRISPY SPRING ROLLS – dungeness crab, lime

I know it’s simple, but I’ve ordered these the last two times I’ve eaten here. Love.

CHICKEN DUMPLINGS – caramelized sugar, confitures

Another one of my go-to dishes at RM. Love these!

YOUNG POTATOES – sake lees, butter

These were perfect.

ALASKAN HALIBUT – grilled over japanese charcoal

Very nice.

IMPERIAL WAGYU BEEF BRISKET – braised for 36 hours with palm sugar & fish sauce

My favorite dish of the night. So tender, this is something I had always wanted to try.

COCONUT BAVAROIS – coffee, peanut

One of my new favorite desserts within the City of Angels. This was amazing.

I feel so lucky to have been able to attend this dinner with my friends. There were a lot of LA food types there that night, and it was nice to run into some friends old and new. Thanks you to Lincoln for hosting this dinner. It was definitely a memorable experience. I’m still on cloud 9. I had been to Red Medicine twice before, but tonight I got to try so many dishes that I will definitely be going back for.

A couple of months ago I took a quick 18 hour trip to San Francisco with my parents. In those 18 hours I ate a lot of great eats. I would have blogged about it all, but as luck would have it? I forgot my camera (and my wallet) in my travel bag, which I left on top of my bed. All I had the whole weekend was my cell phone. So if you follow me on Instagram you saw photos from the trip, but otherwise, no go. One of the most memorable eats was the ice cream from Smitten. Ice cream that is made to order using a special Kelvin machine. The shop was constructed out of a shipping container and judging by the line, a cult following. I fell in love with that ice cream and its all I could talk about when I got back. It was so fresh and clean tasting, and it was by far the best ice cream OF.MY.LIFE. I wondered how long it would take to get a liquid nitrogen ice cream shop in Los Angeles, and lucky for me (and you) the time is now! Open merely a few weeks ago, Ice Cream Lab has found its home a few blocks from Sprinkles and Rodeo Drive, and judging by the lines last weekend, people are loving it.

They only had 6 flavors total, including one seasonal flavor and one special. Naturally I went with the special: Coffee Brittle. Coffee. Chocolate Brittle. Almonds. Perfection. They have Intelligentsia beans on the shelf, so I wonder if those are also used for the ice cream. Either way, it was GOOD! So good!

So, essentially your dessert starts out in liquid form, then they pour it into these machines, add some liquid nitrogen, and before you know it, it becomes ice cream! You can actually taste the milk and it is creamy. So fresh. So clean. And yeah, you can see all the magic happen right before your eyes. Don’t worry, the “smoke” wont hurt you. Some kids in line were totally getting a kick out of it though!

Pro Tip: Don’t trust an atom! Cute.

If you love ice cream and want to try a new take on it, check out Ice Cream Lab! I really liked it and it will hold me over until I can get back to Smitten.

I love Sprinkles Ice Cream. I first visited when it was brand new but I’ve gone back many times since. I can’t get enough. I went back last weekend and had the cherry vanilla (amazing) and the whopper (wow). Go check it out if you haven’t already, but be prepared for the lines and the limited seating.

Last weekend I was strolling Beverly Hills, and just as I passed the Sprinkles cupcake ATM, something new caught my eye. Beverly Hills now has (what I believe to be) its first juice ATM! It comes courtesy of Kreation  Organic Cold Pressed Juicery (located next to Sprinkles). This pressed juice craze has been taking over the city as of late, but I thought you guys would like to see a picture of this ATM! I think it’s pretty cool! I didn’t actually buy a juice from the machine because I was on my way to ice cream, but for $7.50 you can get your juice 24/7 at Kreation. The shop itself is gorgeous and they have a beautiful garden wall to the left of the ATM. Worth checking out. They have a bunch of location but this one is in BevHills.

As we concluded our food day…we had one more stop to make in Beverly Hills. I had heard about Harajuku Crepe in passing but had never set out to go there. I’m in the area often, but usually my objective is Sprinkles or indulging in some shopping. Sidenote? The Coach store on Rodeo always has the best sales on shoes. You’re welcome. Moving on…

The first thing I noticed walking up to the shop was the large display window! How can that not lure you in?

I happen to love crepes very much…as a dessert. Harajuku offers a much larger variety of options for your crepe as far as batter and fillings. Two people in front of me ordered crepes full of tuna. Hmm…ok. Basically, it can be a good meal option if you are in the area.

I like my crepes with strawberries and whipped cream. And from now on, I like my crepes from Harajuku.

It was served wrapped up in thin brown paper like a cone. I loved it! Just loved it sooooo much! I’m definitely adding it to the rotation because it was so light, but full of flavor. Loved.

They happen to brew Intelligentsia, and on the way out as I threw away my napkin, I saw this. Holla! Total win!
