If you follow my Flickr stream, then no doubt you noticed all of the McDonalds coffee pictures and wondered what that was about…here comes the long overdue explanation.
Last Sunday at the Red Bull Soap Box Race, as I strolled through DTLA there were some people handing out coupons for free coffee. At every corner I would encounter these people handing me coupons. Like, more than one. More than three. More than…well you get the picture.
Now, I’ve said it before, and it certainly isn’t a secret…but during the week on the way to work, I’ve been known to enjoy an iced hazelnut coffee from McDonalds. It is never consistent and I’ve learned that it wont always be drinkable, but most days its passable. If anything it makes me look forward to Intelli each weekend on a deeper level.
So, since I had these coupons, I decided that maybe I would do some experimenting and try something new from the McCafe menu. The coupon comes in three parts, completely free and then two that are stamp cards where you get the 5th one free.
Now, I have a brother cousin that enjoys some whipped cream on his fancy coffee drinks, and since I’ve introduced him to an Angeleno, I thought maybe I would see what this whipped cream business was all about. I ended up ordering a mocha because it sounded pretty good from the description. I did not like. That does not mean that the coffee was bad, rather I just thought it was too strong for my taste. And that is where the cream comes in.
Even with cream, I must conclude that the iced mocha is not for me. For the first time EVER, I asked for a water cup at McDonalds because the taste was so strong. After drinking some water, I began wondering what other McCafe drink I might enjoy.
They have a decent variety of coffee drinks and you can also add different flavors. I love flavored coffee, so that is a great option for next time. This is the latte that my friend had.
I have had a latte (or two) in my day, and I must say this one was pretty decent. Way better than the mocha.
I still have a couple of coupons left so I definitely plan on using them. I just know that there must be a drink at the McCafe that I would enjoy, and I may have enough coupons to taste most of the variety they offer!
