At the Mar Vista Farmers Market there was a (sad looking) coffee cart slanging coffee. Not like third wave presentation style. Just in those containers that keep the coffee warm. Usually I would keep walking, but something caught my eye. Whut! They were using beans from STUMPTOWN? In that setting? My heart broke a little.
Stumptown is known to be one of the best coffee companies around. One of the reasons I long to visit Portland is so I can finally try it because I have heard nothing but good things. So imagine my surprise when I saw the coffee bags that clearly said Stumptown. As it turns out, this coffee stand belongs to an indie coffee shop a few doors down from the market. I went to check it out and sure enough, in the window I saw the sign.
So basically. This shop (I’m not typing out the name, you know me by now, so draw your own conclusion) is just using Stumptown beans. The cafe is kind of rundown, messy, dirty. There wasn’t a lot of care taken to the presentation. Behold my neighbor’s dirty coffee cup. That’s how it was served to him.
So I was a little disenchanted and I didn’t want my first Stumptown experience to be at this shop. So I did something I hadn’t done since I was an undergrad. I ordered a blended drink. Cookies and cream with whipped cream. I don’t know what came over me. Sorry.
Later I went to Intellivenice (down the street and around the corner) to redeem myself via a latte expertly prepared by Dan and Nicely. I instantly felt better.
